How To Keep Your Carpet Looking Cleaner Longer

Take Off Your Shoes!

When Family & Friends enter your home have them remove their shoes. Dirt and soil from the bottom of shoes will transfer to your carpet within the first several steps causing a large visible traffic area in front of your entry.

Put On Your Socks!

NO Bare Feet On Carpet! When people walk barefoot on your carpet the body oils from the soles of your feet will rub off and attract dirt and grime that your vacuum cannot pick up.

Vacuum, Vacuum Vacuum! Thoroughly & Frequently

Slowly and thoroughly vacuuming on a frequent and regular basis helps to keep your carpets looking their best. Vacuuming helps to eliminates the abrasive dirt in the fibers of the carpet. When this dirt and dust is left in carpet and the carpet is walked on, it can damage the yarn and change the way the fibers will reflect light, thus making the carpet look dingy or dull. When you vacuum, you remove these damaging particles, which then helps to prolong the life of your carpet.

Industry recommendation is to Vacuum a minimum of 1 time per week, per occupant.

This means if the Household contains 2 Adults, 2 Kids and 2 Pets the Carpet should be Vacuumed at least 6 times per week.

Brent's HELPFUL TIP #1:

Make sure the Beater Bar is set at the correct height for your carpet.

  • If it is set too High, there will not be enough suction to effectively remove the soil trapped within your carpet.
  • If it is set too Low, the Beater Bar can Scratch the Carpet Fiber and cause the light to reflect differently (i.e., another cause of "Traffic Lane Greying").

Brent's HELPFUL TIP #2:

To help break up Traffic Areas, Slowly vacuum at a 90* angle to the normal traffic flow.

Brent's HELPFUL TIP #3:

Regularly, Schedule Brent's Carpet & Furniture Cleaning to “Steam” Clean your Carpet with our Powerful Truck Mounted Equipment.

Some people will wait until they can see visible Dirt and/or Traffic Areas before they call Brent's to “Steam” Clean their Carpet.

This is a common mistake. Dirt falls to the bottom of the Carpet Fiber and settles at the base. This Dirt or Soil then builds up upon itself, layer upon layer until you can finally see it on the top.  Like an iceberg, whatever you can see at the surface is only a small fraction of what is actually hiding under the surface, trapped among the carpet fiber.

When you wait, put off or delay Professionally “Steam” Cleaning your carpet, you can prematurely wear it out. Once this Abrasive Grit has Thinned, Frayed or Worn Away the Carpet Fibers in the Traffic Area(s), the damage is done. Even “Steam” Cleaning your carpet with Brent's Powerful Truck Mount will not replace the missing, worn or frayed Carpet Fibers.

Several Carpet Manufacturers recommend Professionally Cleaning and Protecting your carpet every 6-12 months, even if the carpet doesn’t look like it needs it.

Factory Applied Protection will Break Down, Weaken and Wear Off in the open Traffic Areas. Thereby making your carpet more susceptible to spots, re-soiling, wear and discoloration.

Maintaining your carpets are easy, with Brent's Carpet & Furniture Cleaning!

What Will Happen,

If I Do Not Have My Carpet Cleaned On A Regular Basis?

Failure To Maintain Your Carpet:

Can void your warranty. Also, it can cause premature wearing and aging of your carpet.

Every time you walk across the carpet, dirt from your shoes transfers on to it and body oils from walking barefoot will rub off onto it. Dirt sticks to oil. Walking back and forth works the Dirt and Grit between the fibers. When the fibers are dirty, they cling together or mat causing ugly Corn Rows. The more you walk on the area, the more the fibers rub against the Dirt and Grit, which like sandpaper, can thin the Fibers or shear them off. This is how you get nasty wear patterns in traffic areas and once the fibers are damaged they cannot be repaired or replaced.

Slowly and thoroughly vacuuming several times per week and using Brent's Carpet & Furniture Cleaning to “Steam” Clean your carpet, with our Powerful Truck Mounted Equipment can help to prolong the life and beauty of your carpets and protect your investment.

We at Brent's recommend you not put any type of powder on your carpet. Though it may sometimes help to reduce some odors in your home between Brent's visits, it can also leave residue behind in your carpet. This powder residue may become visible to you on the surface of your carpet after your next cleaning when the powder rises to the top of the fiber as it dries in what is known as a *wicking process.

If for some reason, you feel it is necessary for you to use some sort of powder on your carpet, we at Brent's Carpet & Furniture Cleaning caution you to use it very sparingly.

*Wicking, is the process in which carpet dries...

As air flows over the top of the carpet, water molecules evaporate. When they evaporate, they pull the rest of the moisture up the yarn. If there is anything at the base of the shaft, the water will also carry that along with it, up the fiber leaving it at the end or top of the yarn.

Now, once all the moisture has evaporated, whatever was at the bottom of the carpet shaft is now deposited at the top of the fiber, at the top of your carpet.
